Girls team looks forward to ‘18

The Pulaski girls basketball team finished their season with a loss to the West De Pere in the second round of the playoffs. The high school season basketball season is a long one, ranging from November to March depending on how far the team makes it in playoffs. The Red Raiders had four months filled with highs and lows.

The team faced a string of tough losses in which they lost seven games by four points or less, but on the flip side they had a stretch at the end of the season where they strung together a five game winning streak up until their loss at West De Pere. Assistant coach, Taylor Schmidt, comments on this years achievements saying, “I think our team’s biggest accomplishment was being able to battle back after losing a couple games that should have went our way. Some teams fold after those types of loses. I was very proud of the consistent effort the team gave on a daily basis. I believe this is why we were able to beat tough conference opponents; Notre Dame, GBSW, and De Pere at the end of the year.”

Junior, Isabel Majewski also refers to the end of the season saying, “ I think the team is as good as they finish, and at the end we brought it together, as a team, to finish strong.”

The team will be losing their two senior captains Emily Higgins and Madi Winter who each played very big roles on the team. Together the senior duo averaged 24.9 points per game. Higgins was named first team all-conference, and Winter was named honorable mention all-conference. Majewski, who was also named all-conference honorable mention, comments in the teams future saying, “We will miss Emily and Madi very much, but I am hoping that we can have the same girls come back and be even stronger next season.”
