JACLYN WILLEMS
PULASKI NEW
In the 1955-1956 year for Pulaski football, they put an undefeated season down in the record book.
Arguably one of the best seasons in school history, Pulaski High School’s football team that year allowed only 18 total points the entire season.
The team became the co-champs and placed three players on the all-conference team after they tied with West De Pere for the championship title.
The team shut out Oconto, Green Bay Preble, Seymour, and East De Pere. The team was lead by coach John Storzer. The trophy from this season is still displayed at PHS today.
One of the previous players on the team, Michael Nitti, now 80 years old, reflected on this season. It was his senior year in high school and second year on varsity football as well as a hurdler in track and field. After this season he won all-conference defensive tackle.
When reflecting on the season, Nitti said, “The defense was small but really quick. If we would have had the chance to play West De Pere in that championship game, we sure would have beat them.”
Nitti also remembers playing at the former Memorial Football Field, having no locker rooms for changing into uniforms, and being carried off the field on their final game beating East De Pere.
Graduating seniors on the varsity team that season included Nitti, Gene Brefczynski, Frank Siolka, Marvin Baake, Ron Sariego, Tom Meetz, Bill Truskowski, Bob Elliott, Harry Grady, and the captain, Roger Demeny.
